How To Style Your Hair Like You Just Walked Out Of The Hair Salon!

Trying to get that “just-out-of-the-hair-salon” look at home?

The good news is, after you read this blog post… you’ll be able to do it quickly and easily, whenever you want. With a little practice and a few tips and tricks that I’ll show you in a second, you can achieve a great hairstyle… and people will think you just came from the salon!

The first thing you need to have is…the right haircut.

If you are looking for lots of fullness and volume, you aren’t going to get it with your hair being one length. You need to have some layers in your hair to help take out some of the weight and give the illusion that your hair is full. So a simple shoulder length or shorter hair-do with some short to medium length layers will work perfect.

Start with a volumizing shampoo.

Sebastian Volupt Shampoo works well and has a great scent. After shampooing, apply a small amount of conditioner only to your ends. If you want more of a smooth look, use a smoothing conditioner. I like Paul Mitchell Smoothing Conditioner. Leave on for 2-3 minutes and rinse with cool water, for it will lock in moisture and close the cuticle of your hair.

Use a wide tooth comb to get out any tangles.

If you need detangling spray, lightly mist the hair. Once your hair is combed through, start with some mousse and work it through the whole head. Mousse is a versatile styling tool, it is lightweight and gives body and works on every hair type. I recommend Matrix Amplify Foam. Next, spray a root lifter only onto the roots of your hair. Pick up sections and spray underneath. Big Sexy Hair Root Pump gives great volume. Last, apply a smoothing serum to help prevent frizz and flyaways. Paul Mitchell Smoothing Serum is the best product to prevent frizz.

The next (and last) step is blow drying.

Use your hands to get your hair about 60% dry. If you have a round brush now is the time to start using it. Take sections of hair and starting at the root, blow dry from roots to ends. :P ay special attention to the roots, especially at the top of your hair, where you will want to get the best volume. Pick the section up and hold it about 90 degrees straight up from your head. Keep blow drying the section from roots to ends until the hair is dry. If you want to get a slight curl at the ends of your hair, hold the hair around the barrel of the brush and blow dry, then at the very end use the cool setting on your blow dryer for about 10 seconds to set the curl in.

Once your hair is dry, finish the style with a tiny bit more of the smoothing serum (only on the ends, and only a small amount- a little goes a long way!) and then use an aerosol hairspray. There are all kinds of hairsprays, it all depends whether you want a light hold, medium, or strong hold spray. Pick hair up and spray at the root to give extra hold and volume. Just keep trying at it and don’t give up. Practice makes perfect!!
