I was recently asked the following question:

Are the chemicals used in foiled highlighting different than the chemicals used in the cap highlighting method?

In case you’ve ever wondered about the same question, let me explain.

For a very short answer… chemicals used in the cap and foil highlight are the same.

The difference between the two is that a cap will give you an all over highlight on the head. It is more suitable for people with short hair. If you have long hair and get a cap highlight, you are going to get more breakage.

The foil highlight is great because it lets you place exactly where you want to put the highlight, and lets you determine how thin or chunky you want the color to be. It also gives you an option of putting lowlights in at the same time.

(Lowlighting meaning a darker color)

The foil also gets the color closer to your scalp. Since foiling requires more skill, that is why it is more expensive, but the end result always comes out great!

Stop back soon for more great information!

Trying to get that “just-out-of-the-hair-salon” look at home?

The good news is, after you read this blog post… you’ll be able to do it quickly and easily, whenever you want. With a little practice and a few tips and tricks that I’ll show you in a second, you can achieve a great hairstyle… and people will think you just came from the salon!

The first thing you need to have is…the right haircut.

If you are looking for lots of fullness and volume, you aren’t going to get it with your hair being one length. You need to have some layers in your hair to help take out some of the weight and give the illusion that your hair is full. So a simple shoulder length or shorter hair-do with some short to medium length layers will work perfect.

Start with a volumizing shampoo.

Sebastian Volupt Shampoo works well and has a great scent. After shampooing, apply a small amount of conditioner only to your ends. If you want more of a smooth look, use a smoothing conditioner. I like Paul Mitchell Smoothing Conditioner. Leave on for 2-3 minutes and rinse with cool water, for it will lock in moisture and close the cuticle of your hair.

Use a wide tooth comb to get out any tangles.

If you need detangling spray, lightly mist the hair. Once your hair is combed through, start with some mousse and work it through the whole head. Mousse is a versatile styling tool, it is lightweight and gives body and works on every hair type. I recommend Matrix Amplify Foam. Next, spray a root lifter only onto the roots of your hair. Pick up sections and spray underneath. Big Sexy Hair Root Pump gives great volume. Last, apply a smoothing serum to help prevent frizz and flyaways. Paul Mitchell Smoothing Serum is the best product to prevent frizz.

The next (and last) step is blow drying.

Use your hands to get your hair about 60% dry. If you have a round brush now is the time to start using it. Take sections of hair and starting at the root, blow dry from roots to ends. ay special attention to the roots, especially at the top of your hair, where you will want to get the best volume. Pick the section up and hold it about 90 degrees straight up from your head. Keep blow drying the section from roots to ends until the hair is dry. If you want to get a slight curl at the ends of your hair, hold the hair around the barrel of the brush and blow dry, then at the very end use the cool setting on your blow dryer for about 10 seconds to set the curl in.

Once your hair is dry, finish the style with a tiny bit more of the smoothing serum (only on the ends, and only a small amount- a little goes a long way!) and then use an aerosol hairspray. There are all kinds of hairsprays, it all depends whether you want a light hold, medium, or strong hold spray. Pick hair up and spray at the root to give extra hold and volume. Just keep trying at it and don’t give up. Practice makes perfect!!

It’s really no surprise that when you’re looking for a West Pittston salon, you should be looking for certain characteristics that fit your own personality style.

This video below sums up those 7 qualities to look for. I’m also going to sum them up briefly right after the video below.

Enjoy!

Summary Of The Top 7 Qualities To Look For In A West Pittston Salon

Ok so let’s go through these top 7 qualities to look for, just in case you like to read more than you like to watch videos

#1 – Personality -Having a personality style that matches yours is very important when you’re trying to choose a hairdresser. Why? Because you want to get along!

#2 – Cleanliness – If you’re going to a salon that isn’t quite as clean as you’d like it to be, stop immediately! Being clean is very important and can actually get a beauty salon shut down if the owner doesn’t clean it up properly.

#3 – Good Prices – Hey let’s face it, times are a little tough out there. You should be looking for a place that has good prices for you. End of story!

#4 -High Quality Work – Another aspect of the pricing issue is high quality work. Obviously you want the highest quality possible, while paying the least amount of money for your haircut, color, wax, or whatever you’re getting.

#5 -The Ability To Listen – Many times, hair salon owners and workers simply don’t listen to what their clients want. At The International Hairport, I have a very close relationship with all my clients. I know them personally, the styles they like, etc… so my services are then tailored to exactly what my customers like.

#6 -Experience – If you’re going to someone just out of beauty school and is now working at a salon, you might not get the best haircut. Maybe that’s ok with you… but I wouldn’t recommend it of course! They should have at least a few years under their belt.

#7- Customer Service - Listen, you’re the customer and your hairdresser should be treating you like one. If you want a specific hairstyle, they should do it – if possible. Sometimes it’s simply not possible and you should listen to your hairdresser if that’s the case… but they should still be treating you well and explain WHY it’s not possible!

Now that you’ve read all 7 qualities, I invite you to check out my West Pittston Salon.

Now… give me a call at (570) 479-2929 and book your appointment today!
